Race and Equity
Anita G. Morales will lead a presentation on Race and Equity. Anita is a retired Seattle Public Schools teacher active in issues of racial equity in the schools. She teaches Positive Discipline and Disciplina Positiva and is President of the PSAS Board. Anita also teaches in the Seattle Teacher Residency program preparing educators
for Seattle Public Schools. Her deep concern for social justice includes concern for respectful family relationships, as did Adler’s.
WHAT ~ Being a former task force member of the Department of Equity and Race Relations in Seattle Public Schools (now the Department of Racial Equity Advancement), Anita has more than 20 years of teaching and consulting experiences over the topic of race and equity. We will learn from her presentation on how the ethnic minorities sensing and coping with the sense of “otherness” while surrounded by the mainstream stereotypes, ideologies and prejudice.
- A deeper dive into racial microaggressions, the impact on the recipient and the impact of the author of the microaggression on the children/adults they serve
- Examining microaggressions we experience (as a recipient or as the author) in our daily life/and or workplace
- How we can lean on Adlerian principles to become more aware of and interrupt microaggressions within our sphere of influence
WHEN ~ Friday, February 1, 2019, 7:30 – 9:30+ p.m. The PSAS Board meets 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. Please time your arrival accordingly.
HOW MUCH ~ Free. Ethics CE fees are $10/hr. for members, $15/hr. for others, if needed. Donations are also welcome.
