Film Viewing and Discussion: “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
Skosh Jacobsen is a PSAS Board member, and an experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She works with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. She is married and has been using her communication skills vigorously with her five children and eleven grandchildren.
Won’t You Be My Neighbors is a documentary on Fred Rogers. He was an unassuming minister, puppeteer, writer and producer, and his show Mister Roger’s Neighborhood was one of the most beloved television programs for over 30 years.
Skosh will lead the discussion after watching the film, with the following 4 learning objectives:
1) Participants will identify aspects and benefits of “the language of love” as experienced with Mr. Rogers, differentiating lecture, praise, encouragement and concepts of self-esteem.
2) Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their own experiences of feeling heard, feeling valued, and loving support.
3) Participants will share strategies to express the “language of love” with children, teens, and adults.
4) Participants will learn how an Adlerian perspective of self-esteem can result in enhanced community feeling and contribution.
The forum is free, and CE hours are available for a small fee.
