Health & Despair in the United States
Dr. Stephen Bezruchka is a professor at the University of Washington School of Public Health investigating the socioeconomic determinants of the health of populations. He worked for three decades as an emergency room physician, and spent over 10 years in Nepal working in various health programs, and teaching in remote regions. He co-chairs the Economic Inequality Health Task Force of the Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, where he is also a member of the board of directors. He also works with UW Department of Global Health MPH program.
We are honored to have Dr. Stephen Bezruchka to present at this forum presentation.
The unprecedented increase in mortality in the U.S. relates to increased despair and stress. Adverse Childhood Experiences, toxic stress, and poverty in early life prove very difficult and expensive to redress later. As national leaders seldom discuss what promotes and damages our health from the outset, health care (a very different concept) takes center stage. What is the ‘medicine’ this country needs? Dr. Benruchka reviews the killer facts and presents the most important prescription for promoting better health.
The forum is free, and 1 CE hour will be available for a small fee.
Everyone is welcome. All of our monthly Friday Forums are not only for mental-health professionals but also for the rest of us… parents, teachers, and community members who care about connecting and supporting one another. As Adler said, “The science of the mind can have for its proper goal the understanding of human nature by every human being . . . and peace for every human soul.”
