Family Recovery Workshop beyond Addiction (Edmonds)

December 7, 2019

$200 – $285

Lara Okoloko a licensed therapist and clinical social worker.  She earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Washington in 2005.  She is the current Board President of the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work and an Affiliate Instructor at the University of Washington’s School of Social Work teaching MSW courses.

Family Recovery Workshops aim to improve communication, reduce family conflict and support the whole family’s movement towards recovery.

Research shows that both the person with an addiction and their family benefit when the family participates in a family program.

These family skills-workshops are effective, using research-proven elements of Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), a counseling method for people who love someone with drug and alcohol problems. It is a positive and respectful approach that focuses on solutions and understanding instead of blame or “tough love.”

Already read about CRAFT in the books “Beyond Addiction” or “Get Your Loved One Sober”? Great! Come get support putting principles into action.

Who should attend? This workshop is for anyone who loves someone with a substance use problem: parents, partners, siblings, adult children, roommates or best friends. Therapists, social workers and other helpers are also welcome. The person with the substance use problem does not attend.

What will you learn? This workshop teaches the CRAFT (what is CRAFT?) positive communication strategy and helps you to learn to observe your limits and communicate your boundaries with clarity and kindness. You will also learn which specific skills are most effective for talking to your loved one about accepting treatment help for their substance use problem, all without threats, nagging or expensive interventions.

What is the cost? A full day workshop starts at 9:30am and concludes at 3pm. It includes take-home materials and lunch. The cost is $200 for one person or $285 for two people attending together (plus $85 for each additional person in your group) and a sliding scale is available for those with financial need.

The easiest way to register is to email lara.okoloko@caresnw.com to begin an easy and secure electronic enrollment or if you prefer, ask for a paper enrollment form.
