Professional Development Seminars~ 2008

 

At quarterly Professional Development Seminars, practicing counselors, therapists, and clinical social workers and students consult on specific cases and explore personal growth and professional development, learning from each other and from Robert L. Powers and Jane Griffith in a mutually encouraging environ­ment.   The 2008 seminars are scheduled for Saturdays—March 1, June 7, September 6, and December 6, 12:45-4:00 p.m.  Three CE hours, including APA and NBCC hours, and three clock hours are available.*

 

Bob and Jane are master therapists and teachers.  They have been regular presenters of Adlerian counseling demonstrations at PSAS annual conferences.  Both teach in the PSAS Certificate Pro­gram for Pro­fessional Studies in Adlerian Psychology, co-sponsored for 2008 with Antioch Univer­sity Seattle.  Both are emeritus professors of the Adler School of Pro­fes­sional Psychology in Chi­cago, and both are past-presidents of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology.  They are co-authors of Understanding Life-Style:  The Psycho-Clarity Proc­ess, which addresses the "early recollections" process, and The Lexicon of Adlerian Psychology:  106 Terms Associated with the Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler (2007).  These books are available from PSAS:  please e-mail psas@att.net or see www.psasadler.org/booklist.htm.    

 

The group meets for three hours per session, in northeast Seattle, with “core” members and “observers.”  "Core" members may present cases or concerns for consulta­tion.  "Observers" may not present but may participate in the discussion.  Core member­ship is limited to nine participants.  The fee for core members is $75 per session, with a one-year com­mitment to attend and/or pay for all four meet­ings.  The fee for observers is $50 per session, with no com­mitment to attend.  Students may come as observers for $30 per session.  Fees prepaid by observers and students may not be refunded but may be applied to a subsequent seminar.  

 

Educational Objectives

1.  Participants will learn to recognize common elements in the various problems presented by clients in psychotherapy and counseling.

2.  Participants will learn to recognize and reflect upon personal difficulties in the process of examining client difficulties, and to take encouragement from self-examination and group discussion.
